BETHESDA, Md. – Findlay Prep is one win away from its third ESPN National High School Invitational championship in four years.
The top-seeded Pilots (31-1), who led by as many as 15 points in the second half, cruised into Saturday’s championship game with a 68-55 victory over No. 4 seed St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark, N.J., on Friday afternoon at Georgetown Prep.
Findlay Prep, which won the NSHI in both 2009 and 2010, will face Montverde (Fla.) Academy, a 50-47 winner over defending champion Montrose Christian of Rockville, Md., in Friday’s other semifinal, in Saturday’s title game that will be broadcast by ESPN at 11 a.m. PST.
San Diego State commit Winston Shepard led the way for the Pilots with 17 points and 7 rebounds along with some outstanding defense. Forward Anthony Bennett, who is considering UNLV, added 11 points and 7 rebounds.
