“It feels great,” Liberty senior lineman Jarvis Polu said. “It gives respect to the people before us, that we didn’t stop playing hard.”
After Foothill cut a second-half lead down to 20-12, thanks to a 23-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Justice Johnson, Liberty ended the comeback with two big plays. Senior wide receiver Deseon McQuaig ran back the ensuing kickoff to the Foothill 40-yard line. Then on the next play, sophomore wide receiver Bryan Roland took a Tyler Newman short swing pass to the house to silence the home crowd.
At Basic High School, the Wolves outlasted Coronado 35-27 to move from the fourth to second seed.
Basic will host Las Vegas in the first round of the Sunrise Region playoffs. Coronado will travel to Canyon Springs. Top-seeded Liberty will host Silverado, while Foothill will head to Green Valley. All four games will be held Friday at 7 p.m.
