Syndergaard, Abreu lead 51s past Fresno

Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs over six innings in his Triple-A debut and major league veteran Bobby Abreu drove in three runs with a pinch-hit double to help lead the Las Vegas 51s to a 11-8 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday night at Cashman Field.

Syndergaard, a 6-foot-6 right-hander rated the top prospect in the New York Mets organization and No. 11 overall by, allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five as the 51s improved to 2-0. He left after throwing 76 pitches, 51 of which were strikes.

Abreu improved to 2-for-2 as a pinch-hitter this season with a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning that extended Las Vegas’ lead to 11-2.

Third baseman Zach Lutz paced the 51s’ 12-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and two RBI.

Game 3 of the series with the Grizzlies (0-2) is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a free 51s windbreaker.
