Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs over six innings in his Triple-A debut and major league veteran Bobby Abreu drove in three runs with a pinch-hit double to help lead the Las Vegas 51s to a 11-8 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday night at Cashman Field.
Syndergaard, a 6-foot-6 right-hander rated the top prospect in the New York Mets organization and No. 11 overall by MLB.com, allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five as the 51s improved to 2-0. He left after throwing 76 pitches, 51 of which were strikes.
Abreu improved to 2-for-2 as a pinch-hitter this season with a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning that extended Las Vegas’ lead to 11-2.
Third baseman Zach Lutz paced the 51s’ 12-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Game 3 of the series with the Grizzlies (0-2) is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a free 51s windbreaker.
