A road date at traditional national power Kansas and a home game with 2014 Elite Eight participant Arizona highlight an ambitious 13-game nonconference schedule for UNLV’s basketball team in 2014-15.
The school released most of the opponents and dates for its nonconference schedule on Monday. The team’s 18-game Mountain West Conference schedule is expected to be released in August.
“We have put together an extremely challenging schedule for our young team this year,” UNLV head coach Dave Rice said. “It should assist us as we prepare for another grueling Mountain West slate.”
UNLV will get the season started with a lone exhibition game against Florida National on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The regular season will begin with the home portion of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, with opponents to be announced later, on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16 at the Thomas & Mack.
UNLV plays in the championship rounds of the event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., against Stanford on Nov. 21. The Rebels face either Duke (fingers-crossed) or Temple in the next round.
The Rebels host Arizona on Dec. 23, one of four Pac-12 Conference schools on the schedule. UNLV concludes nonconference play with a Jan. 4 game at Kansas.
