The U.S. Olympic basketball team was practicing only a couple hundred yards away from his office at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday morning but UNLV coach Dave Rice had more pressing matters on his mind.
UConn transfer Roscoe Smith had just arrived on campus and needed to get a physical. Other newcomers like Findlay Prep’s Anthony Bennett, Katin Reinhardt, Savon Goodman, Daquan Cook and Bishop Gorman’s Demetris Morant are also scheduled to arrive over the weekend so that they can began summer school classes on Monday.
Hard to believe that in less than a month the Runnin’ Rebels will begin 10 days of practice before heading off for a summer exhibition trip to Canada.
Once they enroll and complete their physicals, the newcomers can also take part in two hours of workouts each week.
In the video below, Rice discusses what figures to be a busy summer for his squad.
