MONTREAL – Dunk you very much!
UNLV’s third game of its four-game exhibition tour of Canada turned into a dunk-fest for Dave Rice’s Runnin’ Rebels who used an early 24-4 run to cruise past outmanned University of Laval, 97-62, on Monday night at McGill University’s G. Donald Love Competition Hall.
The Rebels had an estimated dozen dunks while running their tour record to 3-0. UNLV plays McGill on Tuesday night at 4 p.m. PST to conclude its series of exhibition games.
UNLV, which played without freshman guard Katin Reinhardt (sore knee), built up a 65-29 halftime advantage and led by as many as 43 points (93-50) in the second half.
Sophomore guard Bruce Dejean-Jones and senior Anthony Marshall led all scorers with 18 points while freshman swingman Savon Goodman and junior center Carlos Lopez added 16 points apiece. Junior Mike Moser (14) and senior Quintrell Thomas (12) also scored in double-figures while senior guard Justin Hawkins, despite battling the flu, finished with eight steals.
“We got a lot of wide-open shots,” Rice said. “It was an opportunity to get out and have fun and see guys sharing the ball.”
Not to mention practice their dunks.
