UNLV hasn’t played Duke since the Blue Devils spoiled the Runnin’ Rebels chance at an undefeated season and back-to-back national championships with a 79-77 upset in the 1991 Final Four in Indianapolis.
But that could change in November.
Both UNLV and Duke will play in the championship rounds of the 2014 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 21-22, the tournament announced Tuesday.
Stanford and Temple will also take part in the annual event, which is hosted by the Coaches vs. Cancer program, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The complete bracket, including matchups and television broadcast times will be announced at a later date.
The tournament’s semifinal games will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, while the finals will take place the following day. All four games will be broadcast on truTV.
Tickets for the championship round games at Barclays Center will be on sale starting Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m. ET and may be purchased at ticketmaster.com, cvcclassic.com, barclayscenter.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.
UNLV junior forward Khem Birch was named the Mountain West Conference’s Player of the Week for games through March 2 on Monday.
It was the first time Birch, who averaged 11.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in wins over Colorado State and Air Force, won the award.
