UNLV on Saturday became the latest team to join what figures to be a very long list of schools to offer 2018 big man Carte’Are Gordon of St. John Vianney High School in St. Louis, Mo.
Missouri, Illinois, Kansas State and Iowa have also offered the explosive 6-foot-8, 250-pound sophomore-to-be who at first glance reminds you of former Runnin’ Rebels star Anthony Bennett.
“People compare my game to him a little bit,” Gordon admitted after scoring 18 points to help lead the Ramey Jets United 15U team to a 71-59 victory over the Louisiana Elite 15 in the 15U Invitational of the Las Vegas Fab 48 Tourney at the Heinrich YMCA.
Gordon was picked to the 2015 USA U16 National Team earlier this summer after averaging 14.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks as a freshman for a 17-12 St. John Vianney squad that advanced to the Missouri Class 5 Round of 16.

Gordon said the fact another St. Louis area product, guard Patrick McCaw, has starred for UNLV was one of the key reasons for his interest in the Runnin’ Rebels along with the signing of 2015 McDonald’s All-American Stephen Zimmerman of Bishop Gorman.
“(McCaw) is doing real well there,” Gordon said. “It does open my eyes. UNLV has a good history of producing players.”
Gordon said he plans to take an official visit to UNLV and, depending on how things go on Sunday in the Fab 48, could even take an unofficial tour of the campus before flying home on Monday.
Ramey Jets United plays Nike Team Texas in the 15U Invitational quarterfinals on Sunday at 10:20 at the Centennial Hills YMCA. The winner then plays again there at 3 p.m. in the semifinals. The championship game is scheduled for 5:20 at Bishop Gorman.
