UNLV commit Wood is a sleeper no more

UNLV basketball commit Christian Wood changed his Twitter handle this week to something more simple and appropriate.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Palmdale, a reserve on Findlay Prep’s National High School Invitational championship team, used to go by moniker of “The_Sleeper 12.” But now it’s simply “Chriswood_5.”

One day it might very well be “NBAshooter_1.”

Wood, who averaged 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in a reserve roll as a junior for the Pilots, can no longer be considered a sleeper when it comes to the world of college basketball recruiting.
The long-armed and smooth-shooting Wood, who as the highlight video below shows more than held his own with some of the nation’s top prospects like Julius Randle and Andrew Wiggins at the recent LeBron James Skills Academy, is now ranked No. 35 for the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com.

Wood says his UNLV commitment is a firm one. Rebel fans can see him in action this week playing for the Las Vegas Prospects 17 squad in the Fab 48 Tournament starting Wednesday night at Bishop Gorman High School. The LV Prospects 17 play Play Hard/Play Smart Elite 17 on Court 2 at 7:15 p.m on Wednesday night.
