UNLV concludes spring practice on Saturday afternoon with a controlled situational scrimmage as part of its annual Spring Showcase at Peter Johann Memorial Field, the team’s soccer stadium located near the intersection of Swenson Avenue and Flamingo Road, beginning at noon.
Gates open at 11 a.m. for the final of 15 spring practices under third-year coach Tony Sanchez. The first 1,000 fans can pick up a “50 Years of Rebel Football” poster as well as a UNLV schedule magnet courtesy of Wingstop. Players will be available for photos and autographs after the scrimmage ends around 1:30.
The scrimmage will also be part of a special two-hour broadcast on AM 1400 KSHP. Former UNLV coach Harvey Hyde will join longtime Rebel announcer Tony Cordasco and Tyler Corder of the Findlay Automotive Group broadcasting the event from noon to 2 p.m. and it will be replayed again from 5 to 7 p.m.
Before the scrimmage the school will hold its biennial UNLV Athletics Apparel Sale from 8 a.m. to noon inside the North Gym at the Paul McDermott Physical Education complex. The event will feature men’s and women’s team apparel, including game uniforms and warmups, shoes, coaching shirts and other memorabilia ranging from $1 to $50. Cash and all major credit cards will be accepted will the proceeds benefiting the UNLV Athletics Department.
Fans can also purchase football season tickets at the Showcase with $15 off regular prices and $20 off per ticket for those renewing season tickets.
The Rebels, who finished 4-8 last season, open their 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, against the Howard Bison at Sam Boyd Stadium.
